Parenting Coordination

Although your marriage has ended, your relationship with your ex-spouse hasn’t---when you have a child together, your lives are forever bound by your responsibility as co-parents. Your children need you to be there for them, to make good decisions on their behalf, to support them, guide them and nurture them.

But, sometimes, the hurt, anger, and disappointment you felt in your marriage follows you into the co-parenting relationship post-divorce. Any time you try to have a reasonable discussion with your co-parent, it devolves into a screaming match. Attempts to problem solve or compromise reach deadlock. Your children are caught in the middle of your conflict, and feel devastating amounts of stress, anxiety, insecurity and sadness.

Parenting Coordination is a form of dispute resolution for divorced co-parents in circumstances where mediation would be inappropriate or ineffective due to high levels of conflict. Parenting Coordination is a child-centered process that combines education, mediation, and case management. At FIT, we strive to help parents establish and maintain a healthy co-parenting relationship, and learn the tools necessary to make joint decisions, so your children can grow and thrive in a home environment free from parental conflict, loyalty binds, and other risk factors that may negatively affect a child’s post-divorce adjustment.
